A Child Stood There

A child stood there in the dark of night
Her tiny, small hands clasped together
She looked around in search of joy
The perfection there would capture her
Then slowly she closed her eyes
And imagined a world far away
The stars shined down upon her head
She prayed now for reality to change
The night was dark but the stars bright
The silence so loud, the still peaceful
No birds were singing, no children playing
Everything so quiet, everything tranquil
With her eyes closed gently shut
She began to feel the magic flow
Imagination took this child away
She opened her eyes to see a glow
Fairies she calls, the magic anew
The fire-flies were delighted then
In-thrilled by a child's happiness
They glowed bright again and again
She twirled around so many times
Taking in everything before her eyes
Everything seemed so magical
Within this star-lit night
The insects sung a beautiful song
So much more different than the birds
Their tale was strong and deeply true
Even though she didn't know the words
The stars and moon shined brightly down
Making shadows for the creatures to hide
They giggled, laughed and chattered there
Filling her with a deep, true bliss inside
Through-out the years the child would grow
Days would change, the songs more logical
But never would she forget that one time
When the world somehow seemed magical
As a women she would step out at night
And close her eyes to try and capture
A feeling inside of her so happy and true
Opening eyes to something so pure
For love is shown within the darkest hour
The stars still shine, the moon so bright
Every sound heard is filled with happiness
She believed 'til death; God was in the night

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.
