A Life Less Theoretical

A Life Less Theoretical

I want a life less theoretical,

More praxis than hypothesis,

Where prayers get labelled for what they are:

Wishes, hopes, hungers, fears.

Grant me please, a present God,

Substantively sensed, comfortably close,

Like a noisy next door neighbor,

Not an alien from some far galaxy.

Let me hear Him sing through a shower’s fog,

Out through an open window,

Life’s joy-filled effervescence

From knowing how the best to cheat death.

I want to stand in patient que,

Along some dusty unpaved road,

Where the poor’d anticipate His touch,

And there, let HIm heal my mind.

I know too much of sepsis,

Microbial morbiditie,

Set loose at Eve’s first bite,

When knowing good, she still chose evil.

Nowdays, the holy’s fodder for the scoffer,

Truth, terror for trapped;

So, keep your distance God,

And don’t return, just yet, to unclean Eden.

Turn off Jonah, unplug Noah,

Let death perfume this late, late party,

As orchestrated addictive stuff,

Constrains to self-destruction.

On another day, once filled with hope,

I dared mention without swearing,

The sacred name Immanuel,

And pled sweet Jesus’ presence.

Almost to bed, I hope the night is friendly,

And let’s me wake to light,

Knowing nothing of eternity, I’d still welcome

One more tomorrow, if in it I’d touch God.

Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is still touching me. I am a firm believer in God and I just read your ending and fell apart. Just the way you worded it. One more tommorrow, if in it I'd touch God. Excellent write my talented friend. Into my fav's it is to keep when I need the kick of inspiration to write. Loved this one! Hugz

This one only has a kick at the end if you really do love God. Otherwise it appears sadly Quixotic. Harv

Harver - this has to be one of the most beautiful and deep poems I've ever read on this site...it so resonates with me!! As a believer and a person of faith; I love your poetic potentialities...I long for this God, until I remain faithful! You have a wonderful masterful gift; I believe inspired by the divine! Peace, Light and Love I will give this the highest ratings possible but this would be unjust, because this poem is beyond comparision! That should express how much I loved it!

The conflict of participation is heard loud and clear throughtout. Hope you find the strength to choose...

The very idea that God can be a personal friend is beyond the timorous belief of most earthlings. I'm working on setting a quiet, yet effective example that this actually still happens. One has to be flexible and read both the singular, personal voice, and the corporate voice of humanity as this is read so that this can become a confession of another's growing faith in God through reading the potentialities. Hope you have found the strength to choose. . . :-)

Sublime and celebrated of how some matters just ought to be! You're weaving thru theological alleys and moral--no-- eternal posturing with a God who has not been welcome in His own creation. There is a great and redeeming wisdom in and between these fine lines! Thanks for sharing from your blessed mind, Harver! Applause, and again!

love this work; we often look outside ourselves for the touch of God but it is not a distance that we can span in ship, only with the mind. Sweet dreams.

By sweet dreams, I am connecting with the idea of prayers that conclude after one falls asleep. thanks, Harv

Poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found words.
