Poem Commentary

As a former member of the U.S. military, I know first hand of the hardships our soldiers face on a daily basis. The dedication and service of these brave soldiers is far above any forms of thank you we can offer. This poem is dedicated to those who have served in the past and present, as well as future generations.

A Soldiers Duty

I give up time with my family
To defend our way of life
And keep our country protected
From our enemies impending strife

I stand ready to defend your freedoms
And give my life if I must
Duty and honor are my watch words
Loyalty, respect, and trust

I willingly perform my duties
Whatever they may be
And ask God for strength and courage
As I bow on bended knee

I ask not for recognition
Or ribbons and medals galore
But only for prayers of protection
For myself and for the corps

So if you happen to meet a soldier
All dressed in uniform
Be sure to stop and thank him
For the duty he performs

I just read this one. It is very true. Each day soldiers put their lives on the line for all of us. They deserve honor and recognition.

wow. that is juice- filled. touches the core and spirit of war. i commend you for serving our country and applaud your choice to do that. i couldn't do that. not out of cowardness, just out of lifestyle choice. i do my part in protecting though. next time i see a soldier. i'll thank him and tell him about this poem. i love war movies. glory being my favorite. thanks for letting me read this.

Truly an amazing write. I was just thinking about something along the lines of this. Today I was told that I didn't have any moavation in me. As I sat and wrote in my journal today after I was told this, I thought to myself I am giving my time, my life to protect this unnamed people and it feels like some of them are turning their back on me. Its a great write for the soldiers of the past, present, and coming up soldiers. Thank you for the write. -Sammi

Poetry is either something that lives like fire inside you or else it is nothing, an empty formalized bore around which pedants can endlessly drone their notes and explanations.
