Afraid

Afraid to leave the shadows
Afraid to touch the sun
Afraid to meet the people
Of the place where I am from

They think that I am strange
They believe I don't belong
They think that I'm pathetic
Believing I'm not strong

Afraid to meet expectations
Afraid of being someone else
Afraid of mental crucifixion
Of the mental me that's false

They want me to play their cruel game
Because that is just what they do
They want me to become a liar
Wanting me to lie to you

Afraid to leave the shadows
Afraid to grab your hand
Afraid to will my legs to move
As you pull me up to stand

Under the light I'm beautiful
Under the light I'll smile
Under the light I'll tell the truth
Ignoring their natural human guile

I really liked this. It is the true thought of the way many people feel life is all about. Manipulating people to go against what they really feel inside.

This is truly beautiful and sad at the same time. The visualization was so vivid because of your use of words and flow, it was like listening to a story. Great Job!

Wow....I liked this one........it reminds me alot of the stuff I write........very good. And hey thanks for the advice in the chat room....it really helped alot and I never had a chance to thank you for inpiring me! :)

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
