An Expat n' Riyadh

Marhabah!
Where yellow sun rises,
Among warm saffron skies,
Where seconds, minutes, hours,
Makes dome blue cries

Where nightstar an’ daystar meets,
Where sand gold an’ water dies,
Camels new day welcomes,
While anima sweats,
A job thousand miles away,
An' green dough eludes
No more…

Psyche white an’ black,
Long loose dresses,
Kaffiyeh white an’ checkered
Gathers among non o’ their kind,
Batha souks abound,
Gold, silver an’ carpets

Salutes salaimalaikum,
Malaikum salam, replied I,
Loud voice sung n’ air,
Calls worshipers,
Atop minoret tower

Up high bold crescent,
Magnificent mosque,
Salah starts inside,
Faithful soul bows,
Alah Akbar!

Expat takes astroll,
Greets sabah-a’lker,
Sabah a’nur, replied I,
Shwarma n’mornin’,
Aches belly an’ full

Heavy pour soaks I out,
Wonder ‘bout rain,
Wonder flooded streets,
It came from where?

Stone ice wonder I still,
Big as apple, hail is it?
Crown I shook,
Believe can’t I

Rides on top, camel on back,
Cupped hand on brow,
Angoras an’ sheeps far beyond
Bloke walkest afar,
Saud ol’ mud castle saw I,
Centuries yet foregone,
Sturdy n’ strong

Sweet dates aplenty,
N' wilderness mosey I 'bout,
Nearly starved n’ death,
Clips afew awhile
Ah! Oasis n’ the midst,
Arms n' offering to Alah,
Quenches athirst,

Twas’ Friday mornin’,
Walkest back n sanded hills,
Saw fam’ly gathers 'round oasis,
Remains there rain after,
Frolicks children ‘bout,
Twas’ picnic all right

Expat leaps n' joy,
Gone yesterday,
Home sweet home today,
From Riyadh with love
Shukran sadique!

a lot of vibrant imagery. Like the fragmented presentation. Interesting. thanks!

Poetry is not the expression of personality but an escape from personality.

T. S. Eliot (1888-1965) American-English poet and playwright.
