An Inch Away from Daylight

An Inch Away from Daylight

brother sings in his sleep,

lying next to me,
war all around,
in the night the moon even looks a little sleepy,
casting its dreams from on high,
above every god damned corrupting lie,
i struggle with memory,
and wish i could send these demons away,
back to the sands from where they came,
lower my rifle,
sip on some coffee,
focus on the starry sky,
imagining peace for a blood-sworn country,
my minds eye,
cant sleep for days because i know,
i have viewed,
the babies lying in gunshot cradles,
the old men withering,
old maids unstable,
young girls strapping bombs to their breasts,
the young men wondering if tonight is their last,
when all we should be doing is fucking,
we're fighting,
we're taking lives and we stopped trying,
no other solution,
just this status qou,
who are we living for,
the faceless enemies,
these enemy nations,
i pass this time,
and mark it on my calendar,
my fear kept in check by my wanton human desire,
to destroy,
to build,
to make sure my life was lived pure
but how ill ever wash this blood from my hands,
ill never know,
ive transgressed what i once held as moral,
hunched over the coals of a cold fire,
in a far off place i fantasize and wonder,
waiting for dawn to creep over,
dusty rocks and sand filled ravines,
camels carrying men who wish for different things,
simple pursuits,
that have nothing to do with american troops,
i know im not wanted,
i smoke home grown tobacco...
i kneel in the dirt and pray....
for my tour to end with me alive and safely away,
from this land of blood of sand

the heavy thoughts and emotions that this provokes in me are so powerful... this is what writing is about... full expression... nicely written
