    Appointment

    Outdated magazines on the table
    Unflattering fluorescent lights
I'd reschedule if I were able
But the nurses are all out of sight

    I think my physical therapist
    Is more accurately described
    As my 'Physical Terrorist'
Still, her rules I must humbly abide

    Poking, prodding, hemming, hawing
I feel like a small white lab rat
On each fingernail I start gnawing
    Will my insurance cover that?

Each of my doctors always insists
They know just what to prescribe
I miss when I just had boo-boos to kiss
Without hearing the whole 'health' diatribe

Then their favorite tool, the needle
I feel the frenzy rising up
    I beg, plea, whine, wheedle
    Can't I just pee in a cup?

If I call it healthcare, that would imply that someone cares about your health however, we know that most of them don't. So lets call it....Medicine. This was a cool read. I apologize for my rant on the healthcare system...I may have picked up on a sense of dissatisfaction with the system from your piece...or....I could just be opinionated. LOL. Still, it was fun reading this.

Savant, I haven't heard that before, but I absolutely agree that we need to find another word besides 'healthcare.' After over 100 doctors and nurses, I can honestly say you have a most valid point, unfortunately. Thank you so much for the read!

I'm so glad you enjoyed it! They say to "write what you know" and I definitely know doctor appointments, lol! Thanks for taking the time to read!

Lol....don't we all revert to children on some level when the dreaded D word is uttered....a comedic twist made this poem really great....

Thanks! I tried to keep it light-hearted but there's so much truth there. :)

To have great poets there must be great audiences too.
