    At The Edge of Ruin

I cant watch you waste away
    forever if I may say
Id love to see you walk one day
to feel you breathe beneath love
    to race madly
to push and to shove gladly
a gadfly or firefly on fire
    from somewhere deep inside
    and all the people
    you have touched in life
    wanting the poison to retreat
    the pain and the hurt
    and the abject defeat
because I cant watch you anymore
sit by your side and wait for you to heal
taste nothing and see only tragedy
    when even my closed eyes
    can't imagine a better place
    than sitting next to your
    drained and haunted face
    crossing all the reasons
    and doubting all the whys
while outside the hospital windows turn into seasons
and our dreams turn into cries
I cant watch you waste away
    forever is today for me
    I'm pulling away
    the future is today
    I'll regret this later
    I'm sure i will
but i cant stay any longer
    ive forgotten how to feel

You give my eye an image, my soul an emotion, my heart an ache, and my mind an understanding. Personal experience? You write very well, and this poem is testament to that talent.

Amazing depth from one so young.....makes me wonder of your poems are from personal experience...???

most of them are from personal experiences...ive always been in love with feeling everything as much as possible, and then writing about it...so maybe its amplified..thank you for the comment though

When you evoke any type of emotion from the reader, you know you've done good job.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
