    Awake

    Awaking with bolts of sweat
    when i never really slept.
    Breathing becomes heavy
    and balance becomes unsteady.

    Vision starts to seem unclear
    as surroundings start to disappear.
Beneath my eyelids I only see red
with flashing, violent images in my head.

A snake moves quickly in the grass.
My breath suddenly stops as I pass.
This is all I can think of. Is this a sign
that shows the true thoughts I hide behind?

    My anger and depression,
    constant saddness and aggression.
All my thoughts lead to violence,
but I only sit here in silence.

Suddenly im too tired to try.
Im ready to tell the world good-bye.
    Life still goes by anyway
and i'm still lying here awake.

Oh my gosh.. this is an exellent poem. Great metaphores too. It totally depicts my life right now. Only one thing.. Awaking should be Awakening.. Other that that it is terrific.. ! Hugs SG

I know this feeling - my mind races whenever I cant sleep - nice job

To have great poets there must be great audiences too.
