Balloon Envy

If I were a loose balloon,
would I be full of hot air?
Would I fly away up to the moon,
or would I simply just lie there there?
Would I embark on fantastic journeys,
my inhibitions all set free,
or would I slowly blow along the warm safe ground ,
to feed the turtles in the sea?
Would I dance along the tree tops,
with no fear of the thorny pines,
or would I cower by a  square hay bale,
with a lack of will or spine?
Would I bounce around the stadium,
risking the sharp touch of love,
or hang close to a nursing home,
to be handled with kid gloves
Would I pull loose from a young childs grasp
 and vanish way to quick,
or would I live safe at the Dollar Tree,
being glued firmly to a stick?
Would I flash with fancy colors,
with stars and bars and stripes,
or would I boast of smudgy finger prints,
 smeared on a dingy white?
Would I go out with a final blast,
having lived my every wish,
or slip quietly with a muffled bang,
from just a small pin prick?

I LOVE this poem. Within the metaphor of the baloon you show all of the possible journeys of life.

Just wondering..did you purposely misspell the word balloon leaving out an 'o'? Oh the many twists and turns of life...I so like this!

What wonderment and whimsy in this buoyant write! "Would I flash with fancy colors, with stars and bars and stripes, or would I boast of smudgy finger prints, smeared on a dingy white?" I really liked this one!

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
