    Barking, Barking, Barking

My two German Shepherds are driving me crazy.
I'm trying to sleep late, because I am lazy.
I just want to lie on my bed in the dark.
While they are outside and constantly bark.

Coming close to the fence, the dogs don't know why.
There are four golfers, who are now going by.
Defending the homestead as nature directed.
They chase off the bad guys, so we are protected.

They're doing their job of defending the Pack..
But I wish they'd be quiet when I'm hitting the sack.
I love my dogs dearly, I hope you can see.
I just want to sleep. Is that selfish of me?

Well prof i like your poem a lot, but the Billy Collins one almost had me peeing in my pants! We had a neigbor with a dog that barked for hours late at night, in the morning, in the afternoon. Kept in a kennel and watered a fed, but otherwise nenglected. they finally moved away. Now we have the noisy trio of dogs! Not the same ones, but ataken in stray with two extra pups that the fmaliy won't let me get rid of. Harv

Your poem Reminds me of this Billy Collins poem..... Another Reason I Don't Keep A Gun In The House..... / The neighbors' dog will not stop barking./ He is barking the same high, rhythmic bark/ that he barks every time they leave the house./ They must switch him on on their way out./ / The neighbors' dog will not stop barking./ I close all the windows in the house/ and put on a Beethoven symphony full blast/ but I can still hear him muffled under the music,/ barking, barking, barking,/ / and now I can see him sitting in the orchestra,/ his head raised confidently as if Beethoven/ had included a part for barking dog./ / When the record finally ends he is still barking,/ sitting there in the oboe section barking,/ his eyes fixed on the conductor who is/ entreating him with his baton/ / while the other musicians listen in respectful/ silence to the famous barking dog solo,/ that endless coda that first established/ Beethoven as an innovative genius./

Depends on whom you are asking that closing question....I say, no...but the two shepherds, they might disagree. Delightful poem! Excellent!

Prof, you're like me...I have a dog (pomeranian) who does three things...eats, sleeps, and barks, and barks, and barks...she stops long enough to eat...takes a nap, wakes up, and barks, and barks. Now and then, there is a fourth thing she does. Nice poem, truly.............................................gogant

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.
