Beneath the Tree

Beneath the Tree

There you are, how long have you been sitting under that tree

Don’t you know that everyone is looking for you

I need to go tell the others

Please don’t move, stay right here

Where did you go

I returned yesterday and you had left

Why don’t you come with me

You’re not hurt are you

You keep disappearing

Can’t you hear me

They have been looking for you for days

Speak to me, let me know what is wrong

When I returned with the others they said I was crazy

I know that you’re safe

I see you; you're near enough for me to touch

Why are you doing this to me

I went to your funeral today

I sat by the casket while everyone cried

Everyone placed flowers by your grave

Everyone but me, because I just can’t tell you goodbye

They are nearby, just a different realm of the universe where we cannot go, but sometimes see. Powerful write from one with a knowing eye.

This is such a beautiful portrayal of grief and denial. I know this poems truth well and have lived it too many times in my own life. It takes courage to face the things that hurt us most and letting go can be one of the greatest challenges of all. Very well done, soulwriter.

Your comments are kind and much appreciation for your time.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
