Black Clouds

Black Clouds

Blackened sky enveloped her

A storm fierce and unforeseen

Lashing out its vengeance

Shattering the serene

Yesterday she’d lingered

Embraced the sun upon her face

Dark clouds just a memory

Blue skies in their place.

Black clouds too familiar

She’d beckoned them for years

Determined to escape them

Weary of the tears

Renounced of self-destruction

Advent of light into her soul

Cherishing a new found warmth

In awe of being whole

Fingers of lightning strike her

Though guilty of no wrong

Flashes of the shackles

That bound her for so long

Stinging tears of stormy days

She’d positioned in the past

Blurred vision of the dream

Her sunny days would last.

julie, Personifying the black clouds lends such strong emotional quality to an exemplary written poem. The rhymes are spot on. ginga

Thanks! It seems I have been plagued with black clouds through some periods of my life...

I love the analogies in this one. The relating of the weather to our pain and joy is not new, but you made it fresh with your original style of writing. Sunny days will abound sooner than you think. Great write.........E

A very good poem. What most of us have in common out here is we can all relate to pain. Another 10.

Thanks! It's my way of saying when I think the black cloud has quit following me around, I'm living right and things are looking up...here it comes again.

Poetry is either something that lives like fire inside you or else it is nothing, an empty formalized bore around which pedants can endlessly drone their notes and explanations.
