cloudy skies

cloudy skies

living under gun metal skies
in the gloom of your miserable rain
flooded by uncertainty
overwhelmed by pain

cloud cover breaks intermittently
as parted curtains reveal
the smallest slice of blue hued sky
hope seemed so surreal

aons locked in exile
your madness my only friend
faithless mocking tormentor
breaking me as I bend

roiling, angry, ugly cloud
smothering shades of  gray
if I never please you
why won't you blow away

raindrops then had no effect
I was already soaking wet
and sick inside with shame
 opened my eyes and realized
I'd only myself to blame

not mine this dank oppresive state
my skies are brighter blues
I recalled the long lost clarity
presented in their views

bad weather is its own best friend
on any given day
but all it takes is warm sunshine
to melt black clouds away

traversing your storm systems
searching for the way
to only know myself again
how often did I pray

waiting - cold in lonliness
you still cannot deny
that all the while I suffered you
I never ceased to try

then one day...

I did not love you anymore
skies cleared to cornflower blue
and the wispy remnants of all your hate
were painted in promise's hue

Wow what beautiful metaphors you utilize to describe a relationship gone bad. And I love the Tori Amos piece. I got turned on to Tori Amos by the only woman I've truly been in love with. Unfortunately, we were both married to someone else at the time, and everything we shared was so intense and beautiful, but she is gone now. I've experienced stormy weather in a relationship and it is like living in a hurricane or a twister. Destructive, to say the least. But Tori Amos is an amazing lyricist. I've always loved her pieces. And she has an amazing voice. An amazing write, and glad the rainbow finally came out in the end. Maybe I'll be in love again, somewhere over the rainbow.

I can appreciate the level of skill you transfused into this beautiful work: there is descript imagery by eloquent words in painful and sad, introspective metaphor! Some of the rain clouds we find above our heads are portable and embedded, bringing their darkened mood, even to our pillows. A real graceful storm that found blue can break through the blues! Applause Crescendo!!

A lot of pain in this...It's a great write but ya know something, you can even find a rainbow under an umbrella if you really look for it with your heart...

I am glad that the clouds are gone and your sky is finally blue. Good to see you are doing well.... :)

Yippie! An ear to ear grin for the lady with the rhythm to be able to dance so deftly as you spin the words around. Ginger Rogers can eat her heart out.Getting past the beauty of your footwork - - I particularly like the dialogue to the clouds. Questioning his motive for sticking around is a cool question.

Poetry is either something that lives like fire inside you or else it is nothing, an empty formalized bore around which pedants can endlessly drone their notes and explanations.
