Poem Commentary

Hard to find a country singer who hasn't been steeped in the religious influence that is the Bible Belt of America. Each country star has a mother or grandma somewhere prayin for him or her. Ask Dolly Pardon. This is a country song delivered from the perspective of a good lookin country singer who faces the difficulties of being faithful to his God and at the same time receiving the never ending praise from the hearts of men ... (and women)

Come by and Pick me Up Lord

COME BY AND PICK ME UP LORD

WON’T YOU COME BY AND PICK ME UP LORD

IF I SEEM TOO TIRED TO WALK

YOU’RE A FRIEND WHO WILL OBLIGUE ME

AND YOU LISTEN WHEN I TALK

THERE’S A ROAD I STILL MUST TRAVEL

WHILE I’VE GOT THE LIGHT OF DAY

AND THE KEY’S STILL IN MY POCKET

FOR THAT HOUSE ON PILGRIM’S WAY

WON’T YOU COME BY AND PICK ME UP LORD

IF I STAGGER IN THE AISLES

AND BECOME INTOXI -CATED

FROM THE COUNTRY WOMEN’S SMILES

PLEASE COME BY AND PICK ME UP LORD

IN THAT CHARIOT OF OLD

AND TAKE ME THROUGH THE BI-WAYS

ON THE STREETS THAT GLITTER GOLD

I STILL LISTEN FOR THE THUNDER

THAT’LL SHAKE ME TO THE CORE

SURE I’VE HAD A TINY PREVIEW

BUT I’M HANKERIN FOR MORE

SO PLEASE COME BY AND PICK ME UP LORD

CAUSE MY BOOTSTRAPS ARE TOO LONG

I WANT TO SING YOUR GLORY FROM

THE PAGE OF EVERY SONG

Perfect! There is nothing like the reverberations of the twangs in a country song!

Funny thing jean how a man's taste in music can do a paradine shift (to rhyme with Caradine?) (or is it paradyme?) Anywayz- I used to look down my motown nose at country. Then I lived in Arizona for a while. I love what comes out of the south these days. My main man is actually a country rocker name of Delbert Mc Clinton but straight country works for me too.

Well, ya know I haven't actually done that yet - there are other songs I'm still nit-pickin on at the moment but I'm sure I'll get around to it. Thanx Harver for dropping by.

Nev, this is great, I love it, you did great here.. My Grandpa, back in 93 said, see that man there, Alan- he will be famous, that song right there tells me he's good, , this is when he came out with Dont Rock the Jukebox, he was right. Nev, thanks for everything, WS

I remember back in 1955 as ten year old kid.I was interested in talking to an older kid who I'd seen around a few times. He was visiting his grandparents. I walked up to him and complemented him on his singing. That's what drew my attention to him in the first place.I told him he had a real good voice and could be a singer when he grows up. He said "Ya I know - One day I'm going to be famous." His name was David Thomsett but we know him today as David Clayton Thomas of"Spinning Wheel" fame and the big voice behind the group Blood Sweat and Tears. So there you go! Some folks just know things.

This is perfect as a hit song! (i'm not even a Country fan, lol) The tale is told in olden ways by feeling real in metaphorical blaze! The nail was hit on the head, driving with force the splendid cadence and musicality of rhyme! Applause Crescendo!

You've mailed your steed - You quoffed a few - you've quilled supine and mortared too. You've seen the breech and filled as such that others wish to too ... in fashion as to long days past and a tip of hat to you. Boo-Boo
