Come Sadie, Come

Poem Commentary

Families are tied by secret knots.

Come Sadie, Come

Come Sadie, come Sadie, oh Sadie come see

See what the fates have bestowed upon me,

See how the winds have changed with the weather

Now singing, now bringing those absent together

Come Sadie, come Sadie, oh Sadie attend

To the feting, the mating of new friend with friend.

Fete them with fresh homemade cookies and milk

She’s glancing, eyes dancing, her hair soft as silk

Come Sadie, dear Sadie, oh Grandmother look,

She’s feeding, she’s reading my heart like a book!

Her electrical wink suggests far more than I know,

Like kerfing while surfing a wave’s deep undertow.

Oh, Sadie, my Sadie, sweet Grandmother dear,

This moment’s too short for enjoying I fear.

A new found expression’s just lit up her eyes,

As if she’d been caught, and must improvise.

Oh Sadie, sweet Sadie, it’s time that you go

You’ve been such a dear, that we want you to know,

We’re smiling, beguiling that we aren’t perplexed

But you simply can’t gaze o’er what happens next.

You give us a hippity hop rhythmical flow of words and rhyme with this one, Harv. I see the aged lady slowly slipping into the arms of Angels on high............very nice.....................................gogant

ROFL - yeah, that's about how the cadence goes, doesn't it? Alas, she only met one of them long, long ago. Harv

Your irrepressible sense of humor shines through again in verse that simply skips and dances into the reader's senses. This is a delightful read, made the moreso by its ending.

I remembered how I liked showing off my girl friend to Grandma. Seemed like a win-win as long as we didn't carry the whole Grandma inclusivity to extremes. LOL Harv

Harver, Your playful Sadie may get excommunicated if she pushes grandma too far or any family member. Then again maybe this family needs some spunk. A fun and potentially raucus poem. ginga

Just for the record, Sadie, the ambiguously identified Sadie, is Grandma's name. She was a dear, may she RIP. Harv

Poetry is what is lost in translation.
