    Poem Commentary

    They say “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.”  Why?  Can beauty be seen only? I don’t believe so. Having found something beautiful to my eyes, I realized it’s not the end of my search, but only the beginning of understanding what real beauty is …

    constant

    the palm trees sway with awkward grace,
    no butterflies on rainy days.
    the rainbow's quaint inverted smile
    can paint the sky for just a while.

    it never fails to baffle me
    how scenes so lovely swiftly flee,
    how starry nights can miss the moon;
    why blooming flowers wither soon.

    existing in uncertainty,
    they can't completely conquer me.
    the splendor and the charm they wear
    change as the seasons of the year.

    i haven't seen one that defies
    unfailing beauty to my eyes -
    one that could last the whole year through.
    it was only when i found you...
