Cyclist

Poem Commentary

I was watching spinners go by one day and had these thoughts. I myself am not a cyclist, but I am a fitness trainer, so i can relate to the euphoric sense you get.

Cyclist

Cyclist

Shiny tan and gleaming skin

Flying colors, dressed to win

Squinty eyes, meaty thighs

Driving rain is no demise

On they go, pushing on

Cyclists’ journey never done

Adrenaline and rush begin

Swoosh and spin, there is no end

Make the turn, pump up again

Feel the burn spin, spin

Feel no pain, love the rain

Brush back the corporal drain

Hunker down, this hill will burn

For that feeling, always yearn

Watch that branch at the pass

Thirst is building, start to gasp

Now alas the hill has come

Sweet deliverance has been won

Love the glide, feel the ride

Arms out wide, breeze goes by

Keen to the wheeling

Leave the body reeling

Each day come into being

Just to feel that feeling

Exercise and its reward, for the body, mind and soul.

I can't even begin to tell you the personal thrill that I get from reading this, it is a pure adrenaline rush for me. I do Triathlon and often ride a 100 miles a week and have been wanting to sit down and write something like this and now I am excited to see you have captured the experience perfectly! Of couse who can't help but be a Lance Armstrong fan so many should relate to this poem / an instant favorite of mine! Keep creating - Live Strong

Thanks so much for your words of support and I am pleased you felt the rush I was conveying.

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
