Daddy’s Girl

Daddy’s Girl

Long past I was her knight of shining white.
One day I lost her Pocahontas kite.
I was her friend, the best guy alive.
She trusted me to teach her how to dive.
On my shoulders at the swimming pool,
Hope she thought I was big daddy cool.

I would give her the sun, the stars, the moon
She graduates on this very day in June.
In a blink onto life she will lead,
She knows how we want her to succeed.
Soon off to college to get her special spark,
She’ll always have a place in her daddy’s heart.

This is heart warming and all so real. As ourchildren flew the nest. I like how the final line brings it all home, good job.

She is on her second week on her own. She's not a little girl any more, but she will always be my girl. Thanks :)

Now this a quite a different tone to your other profile my friend but I really like it alot!!! You have more skills in your bag of poetry tricks than I relaized, lol. Seriously though this was a great poem, very emotional and heart felt! Very honest and real, I have a daugther as well and I can really relate. Mine is still quite young but your poem brings to heart the emotions I am sure I will soon feel in the near future. Time as they say flys, one day you are holding them in your arms, wiping away the tears, kissing the boo boos, the next thing you know they are all grown up. I will savor the moments as they last and will forever keep them in my heart as I can tell you do the same. I know we are always our worst critics but there is honestly nothing to critize on this one, just pure raw perfect emotion, bravo! Purity of the soul, journey well!!! with grace and humility ANGEL

Thank you my new friend. :) I posted this to her Facebook page the day of her graduation. She wrote, 'Awwwwww" She left to college last Saturday. Now we have a big empty house for just me and the Mrs. The Mrs. took her leaving a bit hard, but I am happy for her and wish her the best. Thanks for the comment :)

Wow................................................

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
