Dance the Dance

  Dance the Dance
When I was young and knob-knee'd I thought you were cool
Now I'm all grown up and I make you drool
You never gave a thought to noticing me
I looked up to you from the age of three
Your youth is gone and passed you by
I still have a song and a twinkle in my eye
You never get a second chance to rule
if you don't see the glance when it's aimed at you
So be aware and make your stance
or miss the bud of a sweet romance

I can really relate to this poem as I met an old classmate a few years after we graduated. She told me that she always had a crush on me in school, but I never realized it at that time and later on she married someone else. Thanks for sharing this great poem and sage advice.

It's funny how we find these things out later in life. My husband met a woman the other day that ran up to him and promptly told him she had a crush on him in highschool and that he had never even so much as looked in her direction. It's a reminder that we often are unaware of our immediate surroundings and those feelings. Thanks for your comments.

To be able to give understanding to those things that we go through as youth is a wonderful reminder.

Thanks O. I have thought a lot lately about youth and it rings in my poetry. Perhaps it is watching my young son grow that brings it alive for me again.

Takes me back to when I was twelve and Ann was 9. She was too thin and a bit of a ditz. But I remember her mother, slim, willowy, and full of Southern grace. I wonder if I coulda made it to 17 with Ann, what a looker she would still be? Ravishingly good write.

I have read many of your offerings. They start out intrigueing, touching - but somehow I am left behind. I want you to be as good as you can be. Don't settle for less than the best that is in you...
