Poem Commentary

We can all feel the pain -- just a little --

~ Dawn of Sorrow ~

Leaning solemnly in shadow
with burdened mind aflame,
He dallies sorely to the wind,
Knowing of the coming pain.
Sorrow, aching, brought into view
by torn and twisted memories -
Things best left along the edges
of surging, unsettling, seas.
Just a vagabond with no name -
Who’d once known searing eyes
that burned into his frosted mind,
Feels not she - his muted sighs.
Was once a man, this broken shell,
Who loved and lost fair maid.
She, the one with cunning ways
cared not the sorrow that she’d laid.
So, slowly then he bows and walks
‘long the rutted path of aches
All of him that is there yet -
Does follow each stride he takes.

It is nice to read a poem written by an accomplished poet. I was especially enamoured by the stanza that reads: "Was once a man, this broken shell Who loved and lost fair maid." Without reservation I give this work a 10. Bravo!

Good readers make good poets. Thank you ever so kindly, dear.......

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
