Do You Still Want Me

Do You Still Want Me

When I look into a mirror
A friendly face I still see
Not as young as I once was
But not as old as I’d like to be

I’ve done a lot of living
Seen a lot of things
Been many places
There is more I’d like to see

I’d like to have someone
To share with in my dreams
A smiling face to wake up to
That accepts me as me

I see some mature lines
A few gray hairs here and there
Skin not as tight and taut
Spider veins beginning to appear

But you know what
When I wake up in the morning
I still smile at an early sunrise
Wondering what the day will bring

Long after evenings sun has set
I watch for an even bigger surprise
Waiting as night’s stars appear one by one
Right before my eyes

I like to sit out on a porch swing
Feel the cool evening breeze
Wait for the man in the moon
To come out and wink at me

Now that you know more
About this woman’s heart
I have only one question
Do you still want me?

I still marvel how a collection of letters form words and a collection of words can form a feeling ... you have done that here ... have read many of your poems this morning ... almost all have the quality of hit songs in many genres.

Breathtaking! Totally agree with Mindnumbing this is poetic and evokes the same feelings and longings we all need as humans.

These are sentiments that I think most of us can relate to well, Mareann, and you've expressed them beautifully and eloquently. Thanks so much for sharing and thank you for the friend request :)

Its funny how we all see ourselves so differently and yet we resemble each other through our words....this was a very sweet poem and quite an inquisitive one at that....Cher

Thanks Cher.... We are human with much the same feelings, sometimes we just express it differently... Lol please come check out my poetry website, love to have you... www.marysbridge.org... or.. mareannspoetry.ning.com Thank you, Mary

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
