Down By The Darkside

Down By The Darkside

Down by the Darkside
Inside the breezeway
Where my thoughts are turned inside
With no words I could say
Why my heart could not feel
What my eyes could not see
The lies that seemed so real
The things that I should be
Though I never was
Was it all because
I was walking down by the Darkside
Yeah, I was down by the Darkside

Down by the Darkside
Where it seems the fools live
I was hanging out there at a low tide
I had come to forgive
To forgive myself for my soul's burning
And the way it's always been
Cuz I was just never learning
Just remembering where and when
Through the good and the bad times
The whiskey, drugs and sad rhymes
Rolling fast into the Darkside
Yeah, I was down by the Darkside

Down by the Darkside
The street lights never shine
The girls love a fast ride
And money, sex and wine
You can  listen to their chatter
And all the stories they tell
Pretending nothing ever matters
And end their sentences with "Oh well"
So I have my palace down in this place
A P.O. Box in case I loose the race
Cause I'm a king down by the Darkside
Yeah, I was down by the Darkside

Down by the Darkside
The marriage party is full with laughter
Where the idiot and his new bride
Drown themselve with "Happy Ever Afters"
But like a buzzard the blind groom flies
On an endless tyrade
Strewn with all of his lies
Across the hell he has made
Was it what it seemed it was
Or was it only just because
They held their wedding down by the Darkside
Yeah, I was down by the Darkside

Down by the Darkside
All my friends and I now live
We're so hollow on the inside
We have nothing more to give
We stand there blind and bleeding
Although we seem to be aware
Of our emptiness and our needing
Yet we're too numb to even care
Can we decide to end it all
Pick up the phone - make the call
You must place down by the Darkside
Yeah, I was down by the Darkside

They have closed down the Darkside
Say they love and they care
But there, just on the outside,
Depressed millions are standing there
They have their tickets to the dance stamped
They hold their muzzles to their heads
They are gathered at the old camp
Where they are dying to be dead
So don't waste your time wondering why
Their answer's in their sunken eyes
Road blocks never work down by the Darkside
Yeah, I was down by the Darkside.

ANOTHER GREAT POEM. THANK YOU FOR THE READ.

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.
