    Dream Phantom

    The hours grew late
And a partially devoured moon sat heavy
    In the austere swollen sky

    Pregnant with vengeance
It gives birth to ghosts of sorrow
And I am powerless as sleep prevails

    I floated, suspended above
    Lazily dancing in decadent choreography
To the alluring voice inside the darkness

I shivered at the sounds pouring forth
The cleverly laced notes of intimate offerings
    And melted into ecstasy

Sing to me, I will listen
Sing to me, I will obey
Sing to me, claim me forever

The darkness vociferously declared his love for me
Enveloping me in his resplendent melody
And I succumbed zealously my heart

I craved his touch, his voice, his soul
And the sacred space within me quivered
As he sculpted and massaged his lyricism into me

Sing to me, I will listen
Sing to me, I will obey
Sing to me, claim me forever

I became a gallery of unspeakable desires
Compelled to call out his name
    Subservient to his will

    His lips brushed mine
Breathing his final symphony into my lungs
And like a phantom he vanished

I could no longer feel him, hear him
I reached out across the vast emptiness
And found nothing but eerie silence

As I felt the insatiable warmth of the morning sun
I could feel him lingering on my skin
And realized daylight would forever be my enemy.

Great stuff, BD; this is gothic allegory with bells on. Looks to me like some ghosts want to do more than just whisper.

"Breathing his final symphony into my lungs" — this line alone is fantastic! With this poem, you have out done yourself. Beautiful, just beautiful.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
