    Poem Commentary

    I guess I should tell you the background on this... My stepdad (whom has always been "dad" to me) was really abusive when I was a child, especially to me and my mom. He always stayed though, like maybe things would change (which they kinda did)... Things are a little better, but he still gets realy intense... and now, bc of all MY own anger, Im getting intense too... And its killing me inside...

                 Tock
    Tick
                 Tock...
    Four
         five
              six...
    Seconds
                 go
    by
                 quick...
    But anger stays there for years...

    Did
              you
    know,
              Dad?
    I bet you didnt.
    That
              I
    hate 
              you?
    Nope, you just dont understand.
    And
               how
    could 
               you?
    Its not like I ever talk about it.
    But
               then
    again
               Dad,
    that shouldve been the first clue...

    You see silence is the best way
    to
               make
    sure
               you
    dont 
               yell
    at
               me...
    But who thought that hate would turn
    and
               make
    hurting
               myself
    the
               best
    policy?
    Rediculous, right?
    I
              mean
    really?
    Slitting
              slivers,
    watching the clock go
    Tick
              Tock
    Tick
              Tock?
    Waiting
              for
    the
              gun
    to
              get
    cocked?
    And then blasting...
    Damn...

    used
                to
    think this way...
    And
                 its
    funny...
    'Cause you think I'm changing because of my friends...

    I love this poem. It reminds me a lot of my Death Clock poem. It also strikes a chord in my own life, but on the other side. Let the sadness of regret come and wash over me again and again...

    Family relationships are fragile, at best, my young friend; but things do improve I promise you as you mature. Mark Twain once said, and I paraphrase, When i was a teenager I thought my father was so dumb but by the time I reach my mid-twenties I was surprise at how much he had learned in such a short time. I have read that you have not done a good job parenting until your children say they hate you. I hope you stay safe Happy Holiday, Olan.

    haha maybe, but... sometimes its just not good parenting at all. Its really bad parenting... like, yeah, he may have good intentions, but he goes about it the wrong way. and even then there are times when it has nothing to do with parenting at all...     The pain family can install in us is crazy but letting them tear you down and kill you is the worst thing you can do we cant pick our family but we can pick how we handle it and embrace our struggle to help another whose in our footsteps struggling to breath.... Powerful piece!!
