FORGOTTEN SOLDIERS

Poem Commentary

Pixilated soldiers; It seems all too frequent within the last few years. Even thirty years ago it was news. The wild senseless shoot-um-ups are here to stay. Right now!!!I just glanced at the headlines before I posted. A 32 year old man for absolutely no determinable reason started shooting at mall cops at Walmart. Two died in the parking lot. [ya he was one of them].

FORGOTTEN SOLDIERS

I saw him render unto Caesar;
his eyes wild with latent indolence
and candied fears in cycle ...
a windmill of backspin

his distant yesterday
his chronic breaching:
in diatribes on front line posting
- a fleeting echo
his watering can - his giving up to green-ness
finds solace here
shell piercing ordinance wont
touch him ...
'sunny birds
 residing under
natures parapet
in chartreuse

on the corner
down the street
hungry used car hawker
in the open bares the heat

Still going green he
sheathes his knife
takes cold lemon
from his wife
no juggling wrongs
no judging rights
dreams pleasant days
- abides tolerable nights

capillaries return
forgotten paths
of    pursuit
seem less constricted-
more acute

still drummer voices
trail through wisps
past the leading edge of high reason which
only God can sort with balanced eyes
Now your neighbor - A single cab
rides away takes his gun to town

has pain to vent today
he's not understood
- voice isn't pretty
-he's resigned
-others observe, [or not]
and move on around him

now moving on
buzzing rubber on
black open spaces
'ever on
running parallel to peaceful
thoughts and sunny days

quiet Sunday
set against squeals of
kids as they play
warm... nice ...
a hedge snipper of a day
and a hedge sniper not far away

“What’s in the box?” a cabby asks
“A hedge trimmer!” he says still facing the window

A gamer - with his final game today
ascends the parapet HE chose -
with downtown street fair far below
Torn fabric, a loose thread
a nightmare boiling in his head.

flying feet- camera phone
Six are gone before he’s known
angry sirens rake the air
-three hands say he’s way up there

Pandoras box - the lid slams shut
Like raggedy-Anne he hits the ground
To disbelief through shrieks of pain
The anxious tears come falling down
To the beat of the insane.

WHY ?... the fifth dimension of the newsman’s creed
They of course can tell but can’t explain.
“Where is God?” someone said.
“I don’t know!” he would concede.

It is always a pleasure to read your work. The rhythmn continues throughout and the rhymn is well placed. you also make good use of the metaphor. I also noticed the use of assonance in this work. BRAVO! well done

I never considered my use of assonance. Heard the word but can't remember looking it up before - Thank you sir.

Poetry is what gets lost in translation.
