Re: Poets Stats & Book

i like it
i've been wishing/hoping/planning on some kind of chapbook scheme ... poetography and i have been chatting about this ... there are 1/2 a dozen authors on here, more, you included, Word, that i would love to have a chapbook of (some of? all seems ambitious in a few cases!) their works ... so much more inviting than the computer screen ... and then when i think, "what was that line? how did that piece go?" i could pull your book off the shelf and read again your beautiful work ... and in many years' time, when i am an old woman, i will continue to enjoy your work ... and if we ever meet, i will ask for a signature smile

plus ... my poor old eyes ... e.g., your 800 works on the computer screen ... i don't know that i could read all of them and fully appreciate from a computer ... i would love to read so much more of your work ... computer is good for research, but for truly sinking into the authors that surprise and delight, i want them on paper, dangit! smile

if there were a Chapbook Store on this site, where I could purchase a chapbook of, say ... 20 or more poems at a time? for ... $5? plus shipping (lol) ... i would certainly pick up ... many ... over time ...

and ... one could create chapbooks that were by author, or by subject ... style ... geographic location ... winners circle ... timeframe ... etc. ...

and they're so dang easy ... nothing fancy ... i just want the words on the page to let them properly sink into my mind ...

ALSO ... as you've mentioned ... for published authors ... i would LOVE to be able to browse a catalog of books by authors on this site ... and purchase on said site ...

it seems so easy to me i'm surprised noone has done it yet, lol smile

Re: Poets Stats & Book

oh ... plus ... sorry, i got so excited that you were posting suggestions about easier ways to access larger bodies of work that i didn't even respond to the rest of your ideas ...

LUV THEM ALL

smile

Re: Poets Stats & Book

oh! oh! oh!
i just had a thought ...
you don't sell the book ...
you sell the file ... like a music file ...
only a poetry file ...
formatted for a chapbook ...
that one could purchase,
download,
print,
and make into a chapbook
with
2
staples ...

Hey! This sounds really awesome.
Not sure what a chapbook is?
But I think you got a great idea here, Word.
It's got my vote.

I LIKE THE IDEA, Word. How can we implement it? Another novel idea is a video-strip facillity on the Forum, whereby we could post live presenations of our poems.

CHAPBOOKS are small books or pamphlets of popular tales, poetry, etc. originally hawked by chapmen or merchants as far back as the 18th Century. They are still widely circulated today, offering readers a taste of an author's work in a modest and often creatively bound package.

This baloon thing is a cool idea. Where would they launch from? Multiple places?

Everyone may be responsible for their own page and balloon.
And the winning poets can go the extra effort.

Re: Poets Stats & Book

Is there anyone of you posted on scribd.com? I have visited and think it may be similar to what Word is describing. I haven't put anything on there yet but someone like you, Word, who already has volumes can so easily be discovered there.

Re: Poets Stats & Book

i just checked it out ... scribd.com ... interesting site, Faith!

obviously i have some research to do ... i have no idea how many sites there are out there, digitally publishing original work ... or even how many / what kind of poetry sites are out there ... i was pointed to this site by a friend who posted 1 poem and wanted to win the poetry contest, lol ... he's moved on and i'm still here ... i just love this immediate access to what people are thinking/feeling/writing about, and have been exposed to some really beautiful work ...

i do have a couple of blogspots through blogger ... set that up before discovering OP ... but the only other social networking place i go is fb.

hmmmm ... research is in order ...

Re: Poets Stats & Book

My great grandfather was the brother of Crazy Horse. Would anyone here do a research on him. Maybe you could do that, Miss Dancing Hawk. One of my great uncles wed an Indian maiden. Her name was Kikelia Avaloevra from the great Nevaho tribe. Her name meant, Watcher of Hawks.

Re: Poets Stats & Book

There's talent everywhere, but not enough markets to prove it"

That was a slogon I found about poetry..

I was thinking OP needs street teams, and a small press ezine.

And a School of Poetry, like the school of Rock.

WS

Oh also, in 2011. when OP has a convention. The winning poets from 2009 should pass out the awards to the same week that they won, cool huh..
lol

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
