The Seed Thrower

The Seed Thrower

the car is traveling quickly

approaching a dove

that's gathering twigs in the road

to build her nest

the driver sees the dove

but doesn't slow down

but its not over for the dove

for she flew

before the car struck her

she escaped without knowing

that she escaped from death or injury

the driver still speeds

and the dove still gathers

a man sees a lonely dove

he wants to care for her

he has food and shelter

he wants to give to them to her

he coaxes her, however,

his hand shakes

and demeanor is jaded

she dodges the cage door

he was about to close on her

she just escaped incarceration

she is beautiful

too beautiful to be caged up

the man still coaxes

and the dove is still lonely

a farmer loads his gun

to give warning shots to the birds

who are nesting in his orchard

and eating away at his crop

the farmer points his gun

in the direction of a dove

who sits in a tree

looking for food for her chicks

eyeing a worm, she hears a click

she flies away escaping death or injury

the farmer misses and shoots a limb

the farmer will shoot again
and she will continue to hunt

A man throws seed in his backyard

before he goes to work

he stands at his door, waiting

sipping his coffee

she shows up to eat

he watches her

he dreams of flying with her

he knows she gathers and why

so he puts out extra seed

he likes to spoil her

he wants her to stay

he wants to build her a house

however, she is skeptical

he hopes she is aware that;

he drives with his foot hovering the brake

hates cages

and doesn't own a gun

he will continue to throw seed

and look forward to her presence

he hopes she will perch close to him

not all hunt to kill

not all hunt for love

some hunt for its in their nature

and some hunt to cage their prey

the seed thrower cannot speak for all hunters

he can only speak for himself

he hunts because he enjoys watching her fly
