Finger Nails and Coffee Filters
I clipped my finger nails out the window
so that they would float down eleven floors onto
East 33rd Street.
Some of them landed on the ledge just beneath
my window and I seriously wondered if the
pigeons would eat them when they came to
visit me while I'm writing.
I have the smallest four cup, cheapest,
Mr. Coffee Pot in my apartment. I got it at the
Dollar Store a year ago for $ 6.99.
It has an on-off switch and there used to be a
black removable plastic part which held a paper filter and the coffee grinds I dump in there each morning.
Somewhere in this one room place this plastic
part has gone MIA, so for two days I put on
yesterday's clothes, and no underwear, to get coffee from the bagel shop on 3rd Avenue; but by that time I am already awake and didn't need the coffee so much.
This morning , I put a paper filter into the Mr. Coffee without that MIA holder and it brewed deliciously and strong yet I had run out of milk so I drank it thick-black and that was good too.
I decided that part was useless.
After a second cup I got up to see if my finger nails were still on the ledge and I imagined that the wind had just blown them away .
