Yellow Orb, Pt I-IV

Part I
Yellow orb, dark heavens, high
Broken beams descend, sourced pale light
Illumine the path in calamity’s dim harvest.
In fortnight past, the witness by my reliance
Is far more wretched than forseen:
By faint exposure, is life’s betrayal unearthed;
The specter of my kindred loves
Razed in immeasurable carnage.
The days’ dread is a dagger
Anchored in an unanimated tomb of
This light-starved heart.
An unholy wound hammers will and strength
So meeting this vapid trek,
Trudging on under that faint candle
Above macabre mountains by faithful fallen…
Yellow orb, dark heavens, high
Part II
The vistas once ranging to the periphery of vision
had merged, a flood of droplets, sapping all hues
save that ominous grey, blending sky into land
The pelting showers fed into caged indecision:
a remembrance of an old refrain played upon
once resolute convictions.
‘Water cascading, racing down
Soil immersed, torrent relentless
Dull, erratic, percussive sound
Earth succumbing gasps in wetness
Riding hard, the incline steep
Leaping, dashing, upon dark horse
with one heart intent to keep
Unfailing fervor, destined course
Parchment pale under vest
Burning heart within chest
Rains hurls down without rest
To hope to have, but ne’er possess
Passions strength carried faith to love
Endure the tempest by light of the Dove’
Surely some faint cheer may bleed through
the desolate dampness by dark long days
conspiracy to snuff the heart’s true light
on the warrior’s trek ‘neath waning might.
Recall the word of sages, “without a vision
The people perish.” Smite this derision
The wound of this mind, by risen Wings
Heaven bound beings will lead the blind.
Head down, scanning the mud pasted path,
Is my salvation any nearer than these twenty one
bleak days have introduced me to? Heaven descend
to the depths of this rock, encircling the hidden sun!
Save me from the mouth of deaths’ hungering jaws
lest despair be the toxin by which my heart is gnawed.
Part III
To bring forth those day’s former gladness
Paradox of promise is a mocking traveler
My wife and fair sons, struck down by madness
are alive in this mind, and fate, the unraveler
I’m living death, walking, as I stalk after hope
By gleaning from wastelands and creek beds, I cope
My faith is my armor, as chivalry dies
And vengeance is fleeting as memory cries:
Flaming darts fly in battle
to quicken vile schemes
defeats’ crude voice rattles
on the front of my dreams
The adversary does deride me in pillars made thought
And hopeless, abides me, as the warring is brought
Should I lose in these tactics to lay claim in my mind
I’ll be no more than the shell of a warrior gone blind
Where is my deliverance as spoken through sages
Saving hard fallen, lost warriors, through ages
In grief’s unblessed marriage to despair, bears sons
My heart up to heaven in all faith to pure ones
The clouds’ misted mass looming dark overhead
Was horizon’s dooming, and scathing dank dread
A parting by that flank leaves a hole in night sky
Fanning Yellow Orb’s faint beams to sojourn by
Shed dark days, sky’s candle is my friend
Dimming jewel, proceeds recession to night’s end
Enjoining sun, faiths’ armor mirrors light
Upon new dawn, joyous memories burn bright
Part IV
The resolve of my bones has fallen away
Like the end of night, inviting new day
Into my wakened hours, a blanket of sleep
As held to my minds eye, loved ones in keep
The scenes of mindscape have eaten desire
Exhausting life’s fires since transversed the fray
Rest brings sleep in mortal thought
From pillages deep and waste in drought
I sleep, I sleep, to span the chasm
Slowly seep, by lulling fade
To flee on wings, ruminations staid
A world unknown, comes in view
By silence hushed, and glades bright dew
There is no sense by war’s fierce face
A warming sun breathes heats’ embrace
Entranced in vision by lock and key
Flowing on rivers’ light I see
The kindred loves removed by strife
My two strong sons and faithful wife
Their call for me to leave war’s stage
Hard fought inventions and violent cage
The valiant, valor and only siege known
Forsaken, life taken, down to the bone
The heed of enticings and sumptuous fairs
A trophy of trophys, as joy is declared
Lay down the wielding of my shield’s due
To reckon this soldier be raised anew
Forever done are vain treks by dim sight
From Yellow Orbs offerings that sap men’s might
From temper by battle in savage bleak fight
As night yields to day into birth of new light
Far and away fly war’s beast
Passions full dressed as I am brought to a feast
All loves and all honor, my ancestral line
Have been waiting in elation
The retiring warrior who fought to deaths door
Eternal celebration that knows pain no more
