Country Cure
After two long years fightin desert war
The boy came home with a mind all blurred
Nine-teen years, just an innocent kid
War turned him bitter all he saw and did
Pushing back all that chaos and rage
He spent his nights in a drunken haze
But, that couldn't fix what needed a cure
And, he'd never last or even endure
Off to the world he went searching his heart
Beggin' his memories to tear from the war
But, it stalked him like a hungry beast
No matter his journey it just wouldn't cease
So, he came back home and took a low key
Driving the back roads in search of some peace
And, he found some relief in traveling around
That easy quiet comfort in each tiny little town
In these simple little places he once thought a bore
His heart found that country was his only real cure
Far from the cities his soul starts a slow mend
A good country woman brought his war to an end
From a boy to man that had all but, lost hope
And, a soul so scorched it barely could cope
His spirit awakened and now had recovered
From this simple country cure he discovered

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
