THE GAME OF LIFE

THE GAME OF LIFE
We are all players
In the game of life.
But you can’t always win-
Sometimes you win
And sometimes you lose.
As the wheel spins
And you place your bet
You can only use
What you’ve got in order to play
In this life roulette.
And then you’ll be dead.
So it’s only a game
That you shouldn’t take too seriously.
Because in the end
Of this game of life
Nobody leaves alive.
We’re just here to play
But the score doesn’t matter anyway.
So when life gives you a bad hand
Don’t be too hard on yourself
If you happen to lose.
You just have to understand
That there’s a loss in every gain
And a gain in every loss.
So you just spin the wheel again
And continue to play.
And when you fall down,
Just dust yourself off
And pull yourself up
And move on…
You must learn how to play
Without getting too involved.
Remember, in the end it’s all just a game
And the final score
Is always one and the same!

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.
Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
