Public Site Survey

Ok, here's an idea just to find out what's going on.
I was told by some resources, that there are alot of people
reading us, but they are not signed up.
Most feel that they cant compete to alot of poets here, so
dont want to try. So I suggest, a creative writing section.
Im sure someone needs something to do, and share what they know.
Studly would be perfect for this, along with, RHPeat, Dah, Neville, and more.
Ok, do a survey, a yes or no questionaire.
What genre do you read?
What poets do you read?
Did you purchase the book?
And so on,
Improvements.

I found out this information from three states.
GA, IL, and WA.

PS, I found out alot more also, but that's a secret, lol

RE: Public Site Survey

1. all genres, depends what I'm in the mood for
2. those who return the favor are the most read; However, I am at times attracted to poems whose poets do not share the need to read mine in return...
3. Not yet...

I think your survey is a good idea, I think the above may be some popular answers. "and Survery says?" ...

Personally, I think it's a great site that can be improved upon by the users who enjoy the site by supporting new ideas. I think a creative writing section is a cool idea. I like the poetry survivor idea. To have other contests going at the same time on the site, that are not so much for being published, so much as something to have fun with and participate will keep the OP community growing as well I think, leading more to get involved with the purchase of the OP book.....

Maybe this is a stupid suggestion, or perhaps I don't know how things work, but I do think that the poems that are in the book should be removed from the site, as people should not be able to read contest winners for free, once that years books are published...

RE: Public Site Survey

I was told by my resources that we are being read by thousands,
we are starting a revolution in poetry.
OP is doing something never done before, I told my band in 2001, that by
2010, Poetry will be mainstrean again, and my prediction is shining.

the poems that are in the book should be removed from the site, as people should not be able to read contest winners for free, once that years books are published...

That's very interesting, I say that I have to agree.

I don't know. I think it would be a great diservice to the reading audience. Take your poem, WS, that closed out the book. If it is removed from the site, new readers will ahve no clue it exists the way it does. we are strip-minig the site of jems.

I see your point, and perhaps I am to young and idealistic, it just seems wrong.

Bret, it's very debatable, only publishing experts know.
I guess it could be voted on, but my main concern was the general public,
that reads without signing up, a survey for them.

RE: Public Site Survey

Good idea. Some of us with such shitty numbers would love some imaginary stroking from that vast invisible readership. Seriously, it is a good idea.

RE: Public Site Survey

I heartily endorse that idea Wordslinger. We need to help each other "emerge" from the shadows of anonymity and make our mark.

Nothin to lose folks ... say hello to us and join in. gulp

RE: Public Site Survey

Say! While we're on the subject of surveys. I wonder if there are others here like me, who would love to be able to post mp3's on this site.

I was looking through my CD's and came across one which I bought from a local musician who was just one of many in a marathon night at a downtown bar. A lanky drink of water with a ZZ Top beard and a classic hippy agenda- (He was trying not to get famous)
He had a Will Rogers, story-telling way of singing, and the songs are TRUE poetry. I really, really want to post a couple here. His delivery is worth the price of admission alone. He needs a set of teeth which seems to enhance the enjoyment of his work rather than detract from it.
I'm thinking there are recitations that could be posted of our own or someone elses, here as somehow a completion of the body of poetry.
What do you folks think?

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.

Aristotle (384 BC-322 BC) Greek philosopher.
