In The Darkest Winter Was Night Tornado Blue

It was around midnight, and no siren was sound
I awoke to a scream. 'Three have touched down!'

RE: In The Darkest Winter Was Night Tornado Blue

I wondered "three of what?", then gazed out the pane.
Eddies of wind, violet night shades, moon on the wane.

In The Darkest Winter Was Night Tornado Blue

I went outside, and all I could do is stare
Chaos showed its dirty face everywhere

Oh my God, snow, and debris. A furious beast snapping trees
‘All of my family are dead‘, my poor old bloody neighbor said

RE: In The Darkest Winter Was Night Tornado Blue

All of mine are dead as well, there is no power
I have my cell, the storm took the radio tower

RE: In The Darkest Winter Was Night Tornado Blue

The onslaught of violence wrought destruction and dread
for what horrors may still come in this dark night ahead!

There must be more in the distance, hear the rumble

We need to find shelter on the lowest floor

RE: In The Darkest Winter Was Night Tornado Blue

Good luck with that, the roads are ice; we need shelter
Oh no, my ears are popping; the air is dropping pressure

I once had a cat, that used to hide out under the bed
Maybe we need to find mattresses before we’re shred

Mr Obama should help little towns, we people are good
We've lost our families, friends, homes, and our livelihood

Do any of you remember what you learned from a tornado drill?
I can't remember now, God, I just don't want us to get killed

tumultuous winds, a funnel shaped hand,
ripping the trees from the once peaceful land.

All I remember is, everyone was saying we're all going to die
We are going to die a virgin, and some of us will learn to fly

RE: In The Darkest Winter Was Night Tornado Blue

One time we had this warning during class,
everyone was screaming, and going so fast

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
