Group Project: Life as Child

Hello fellow poets. This is Sydney. I am asking you to help pull together poems about any subject for my cousin whos turning 4 years old this May. It has to be age appropriate for her to read. It can be educational, funny, sad, etc. It could be any subject such as: colors, animals, kids tv shows, personal experiance, shapes, etc. But keep it simple. Sometimes, my cousin has a short attention span as any child can be. you dont have to write a poem. You can write a story or think of ideas of poems or stories. the deadline will be the last day of April, giving enough time for it to be in bookform. if anyone would like to have a copy of their own, please put in a request for Sydney. it will be a limited edition unless all poets/storytellers have put in a request that it should be more than a limited edition.

THE ASTRONAUT SONG

Mother earth, I’ am home sick
I know you’re sick too
I want to go home and make peace with you
Father sky, your turning gray
I know your sick too
I want to go home and pray to you
From the moon you can get a good view
I can see everything that is troubling you

COLORING BOOKS

I' am glad I have mothers' coloring books
I want to color a picture of a flower
Mother says they were the earths' children
and now there are only artificial ones
I want to color a picture that says some thing
I want to color a picture that says murder

I want to color a picture of a animal
Mother says they were the earths' guardians
and now there are only artificial ones
I want to color a picture that says some thing
I want to color a picture that says murder
Oh what is a flower? I never got to smell one
Oh what is an animal? I never got to touch one

I only have eight crayons in my hand
to mix mistakes and madness and make them blend
and to paint a picture of what I really miss
a picture of beauty which no longer exists

NATURES’ KISS

I had a conversation with a bird,
and her words were not of happiness
I knew she was speaking for her kind
The ones who search for a new place to nest

I only spoke for myself, because
I'm embarrassed of my kind
But if my kind could've heard and
felt what the birds went through,
a few things might be fine

After experiencing and writing this
I' am wondering if I'm the only person
who had a conversation with nature and loved its kiss

SHADOW FUN

Kay Lynn & Daisy love to play the shadow game

"Momma turn on the lamp so we can start playing"
"Momma, what are my hands are saying?"
“ I’ am a dinosaur, see my teeth, there are four”
“My mouth can open wide, hear my roar”

“Crawling, crawling up the wall”
“I’m the biggest spider of all”
Shadow fun, shadow fun
A fun game for anyone
Shadow fun, shadow fun
Lets play everyone

"Momma, I look for my shadow in my dreams”
“That’s why sometimes you hear me think”
“ I’ am a bunny rabbit, see my ears, there are two”
“ My face is cute and cuddly, Mamma just like you”

“Flying, flying on the wall”
“I’m the fastest bird of all”
Shadow fun, shadow fun
A fun game for anyone
Shadow fun, shadow fun
Lets play everyone

“Momma, use two hands, pretend Daddy's kissing you”
“When he gets home he’ll play too, we know he misses you”
“I’ am an angel flying up to Jesus”
“He plays too because he sees us”

“Flowers, flowers begin to bloom”
“The prettiest flowers in the room?”
Shadow fun, shadow fun
A fun game for anyone
Shadow fun, shadow fun
Lets play everyone

LEND A HAND

It's good to know in advance
First aid,
to mend fellow man
Urgent care and how
Get prepared now

Kits and supplies,
symptoms and signs
It's good to know how and why,
poisonings, and treating bites

Lend a hand, lend a hand,
on the spot,
to reduce their shock
Rescue man from fire and water,
From heat, and cold exposure

Rescue man, rescue man and
Lend a hand, lend a hand,
So take some notes
Learn universal antidotes

Lend a hand, lend a hand,
Learn CPR, and save someones’ star

BLACK SWANS AWN PINK LAWNS

The great land afar
is grand and bizarre
Black swans wander and go
on pink lawns to and fro

Under a yellow sky
Orange clouds weep green rain
Storms slowly raise in this domain
With a bright blue sun
It is big to behold
the striking red lightning phenomenon

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
