This person whose letter you've shared is, I believe, quitting OP for the second time, under a second name, for the same reasons, with all the lashing out, vitriol and evidence of instability as the first time. I entreated with this person to leave their legacy of good work (including academic-style informational posts and comments) on the site the last time, you know, take a breather and let this work settle in, let others educate themselves from it, to no avail. This person is establishing a pattern of high-energy chaos ... and no amount of intellectualizing makes it ok to let jealousy over Dah's popularity turn into a wholesale condemnation of his work. I've said this before ... why bother with condemnation? Why this personal criticism? There are so many great writers on this site ... go forth and find something that inspires! Your support of this person is interesting to me, Oren. While I appreciate his hard work and generosity with his poetic knowledge, his tone is always one that raises my hackles. Patronizing and fearful. He could publish a book in which he could pour all of his intellectual and righteous anger, and readers who find him amusing or helpful could buy it and send him letters of praise and thanks. But here, he needs to lay off the personal criticism. What he's laying out as "obvious universal truth" is such a personal, intellectualized perspective that there's really no hope of even having a discussion with him. In fact, by dismissing all of Dah's "fans" so completely, is he saying we're all stupid? That we have no taste? That we all drank some kind of Kool-Aid in his absence? His inability to appreciate the perspectives, feelings, and experiences of others makes him a poor community member, and he may just be happier away from reminders that others in the world have valid information to share in myriad expressions, coming from shared moments all over the world. I, too, am disappointed in this development ... more for the selfish 2-yr-old "taking my toys and going home" behavior than the loss of a great writer and a generous resource. But if we had to choose, which he seems to be asking us to do ... how hard are we willing to fight to get such a self-absorbed personality to see the light? This is not a one-time occurrence ... it's a recurring theme ... and if it were me receiving his nasty messages on my work - on the THEMES of my work - i might well be inclined to block him or even leave the site. Wrote more on this than I thought I would ... but this is a topic very close to my heart ... Respect makes this site go ... without it, there's just no reason to be here. Namaste. -dancinghawk- I'm not going to get very deep into this, only to state that after reading this four times, it is been quite a while since I have read anybody debating themselves-and losing! LOL Look at the contradictions here...that he's "a selfish two year old", a "poor community member", a "self absorbed personality", and "patronizing and fearful". So how does she support her conclusions? By admitting that "this person" left a "legacy of good work...", has shown "...hard work and generosity with his poetic knowledge", and apparently is "...a great writer and a generous resource." Generous and selfish? A poor community member who does good work? As Frank Zappa once said; "HEH?" Because dancinghawk can't even bring herself to even mention "this person's" name, the only thing that comes across is her contempt and extreme dislike for this man. Why? Is she schizophrenic or is she dah's little squeak toy? LOL I'm only proposing this because she seems so overly protective of him. I just don't understand. This posting makes almost no sense at all. |
The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.
Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
