FROM THE CHILDREN HAVING NO FATHER

FROM THE CHILDREN HAVING NO FATHER

Raising yourselves in the dark shadows of your absent fathers,

Without guidance from him you still seek to overcome and shine.

Many have dismissed your unknown future and say why bother-

And Raising yourself without the help of an absentee father,

Is a bitter taste you struggle to take, hold in, and swallow.

It is brought to your attention again and again, with lasting intent-

That the growing up of a child requires both mother, and father.

The hurt requires strength from the children growing old without-

The mention of those didn’t show, running a little late, or didn’t even bother-

To seek, make right, repair, or reconcile the child to the father.

It fuels the needed fire that burns within to engulf the memories,

And feelings of being young, wanting, in need of: but having no father.

Your father’s day card and gift was addressed to the unknown,

Sealed with the expectation that one day you would indeed:

Open it,

Read it,

Respond to it!

You will find an open invitation prompting you to simply show up-

At your child’s sixth, seventh, ninth, or sixteenth birthday party…

A tee-ball game, a teacher-parent conference day…

Or even on your special day, Father’s Day!

I truly enjoyed reading this poem. As a mother, it gave me a better view of what a young boy, teenager, young man, or even a older man wants most of all to have his father around. What is my image suppose to be without my father around, is a question that my son maybe wondering. As a mother of young men, I too feel it is very important for the little boy that has to grow into a man have his father in his life. I am a woman who had both parents in my life, not perfect, but present. My father was not perfect, but I learned a lot from him and I am so glad that he was a part of my life. Thank you for sharing a view of a boy to a man without a father for me to get a better understanding.

Thank you for your kind words. I have found that the eyes of a young child has a vision that helps to educate amd motivate us as a society to do better

Yes, I was inspired to write in representation of those that never had, or had a limited involvement of their father in their lives. With Father's day approaching I felt the need to share and encourage. Thank you for reading.

Very well articulated poem. The feelings and emotions are being screamed through this piece. I love the inspiring message, though hard to intake, but much necessary to share. Great job as usual God bless you!

Thank you. With Father's Day approaching I felt inspired to write the story of those that don't have the willing involvement of a father in their life. Thanks for reading.

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
