Gentle Rain

Poem Commentary

Most of my rhymes are written in Portuguese. Once in a while the muse calls me in the English language, but it doesn't come easier for me since English was not the first language I heard as a developing child. I guess that has changed a bit as I lived my second childhood through my children, giving me a second chance to appreciate English in a more profound way. But I do read a lot more than what I write and I'll be enjoying everyone's work on this site.

Gentle Rain

Gentle rain, soothing me
Drops of liquid life
Wind and thunder
Wooing man and mice

Trees and bushes
Moving to and fro
Quiver, tremble, and rock
As lightning makes them glow

I thought I had forgotten
But it all came back again
All my memories appeared
On this night of gentle rain

They were there, alive and well
In all their glory, their amazing grace
And my mother and my father
In a glorious embrace

It was so long ago
So many years before
And I wish I knew what I know
I would have lived it more!

Beautifully spoken. The flow and meaning have such feeling. The forgotten memories that we hold dear to our hearts and wishes looked back upon.

Wanishi! I can hear the sound of the gentle rain and see the flash of lightning as I read your reflective words and rhythms. Appreciating Nature can truly stir the soul and bring out timeless, surprising insights within, such as, appreciating loving parents, as in your poem!

Thank you Doninha! It is so true, we often look at the heavens and tend to forget our own mother Earth!

Love it, great blend of warm memories with nature as the catalyst.

Blend is a good term, thank you! It might be the same with every one else, usually I know when something is going to come through and I sit on the PC and write. Here, I was surprised when the idea shifted to my parents. It really pleased me!

Nice poem of looking back and thinking of the way things were long ago.

Thank you Nadia1986 I can't visit your profile (or read some of the published poems). Since I'm new here I don't know why that is!

If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry.
