    Poem Commentary

yummie yummie blackberries with a side of fig newtons please!

    Hardpan Cornucopia

I had a fig tree in the back yard of a place I lived
once... They will always remind me of a trying
defining time, but it was only the beginning...
some what latter as times grew harder, in another place

the ground was unforgiving, full of rocks and clay
packed nearly as hard as rocks... the times we struggled through
made the soil look soft, but despite the hard pan

wild black berries sprang up with a violent passion
to live... the briers tore at your skin if only to tell you
they were alive, but there was no need

the succulent plump berries spoke for themselves...
since then I have been infected with the
unyielding desire to live from the blackberry.

This is a great poem! I like the imagery used in visual comparison! Very Nice!

Hey What I tell you. It's a hell of a poem. It made a great comment too. I like the form you put to it as well. It reads smoother with the stanza and line breaks. Causing the pauses in the mind as you read to snatch a bit of the depth for deeper concern. Like it. A poet friend RH Peat

Michael, this is a wonderful poem that makes one feel the dearth of good things in a young life. The other side of this visual is hope, and joy in the small things, as is related by the writer of this poem. I have to say I love it and will be adding it to my favorites.

thank you that is berry kind of you. Please don't mind the pun, it is more of a typo gone funny. I don't think anyone else has told me that a poem of mine was in their favorites.

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.
