    Hawaiian Summer

I remember Summers spent on the beach
laying in the warm Hawaiian sand
Feeling the hot golden sun kiss my body
    turning it a burnished bronze

Stretched out like a great cat, lazy
heavy lidded eyes closed in contentment
as the tradewinds caressed my every curve.

The hot humid air, wet with the fragrance of ginger, plumeria and pikake
    The scent is intoxicating!
    Sultry nights - steamy days
memories of long ago when I was younger

The happiness of finding a little cove to hide away
make love in the surf, witnessed only by curious gulls
A feeling of perfect bliss would engulf me at that moment...

And those nights on the beach, wrapped in a blanket
    whispering secret things to eachother
the salt on my lips, wind blowing my hair
completely safe in the strong arms of my lover

I do long to return to the aina - the land
to hear once again the music of my ancestors
such beautiful songs sung by beautiful hearts
One day I will go back for good, and my heart will be at rest.

The scent it intoxicating! Did you mean is instead of it? Start on a negative and finish on a positive. I loved this poem. I was able to envision the whole sceen on a beach in my wife's arms. Nice imagery. Reminded me of From Here To Eternity.

Lovely and sweet as you open your soul and share this memory with all. A beautiful stream for me to sip from and cool my weary heart. True heartfelt treat that stirs me from my sleep. 10!!! Bravo

This was great to read. Good memories and nicely done! Great job. Thanks!
