    HE'D NEVER WON AN OSCAR

    Born fifth of seven sons
His father English .. a stonemason
His mother Welsh .. an aspiring concert singer

    Comedian .. clown hero
    An entertainer from his heart
Joked he'd left England at the age of four
When he'd discovered he couldn't be king

    Vaudeville .. Broadway
    Impersonated Charlie Chaplin
    Took radio by storm

    Traveled around the world
    Entertained the troops
    Whether or not
    There was war

    More than two thousand awards
    Citations he'd received
    For his humanitarian
    And professional efforts
Honored by every president since Roosevelt
Guiness Book of World Records declared him
The most honored entertainer in the world
A chapel, ships, and airplanes carry his name

He was held in high esteem
    Starred in film
With Bing Crosby and Dorothy Lamour
    He'd never won an oscar

Sometimes a prestigious award doesn't define a person...He can be great on his own with or without it...i love the irony here SB,,,great write!...^_^ v

A well written and fitting tribute to Bob Hope, he too was a real class act! Just watched an old road to Morocco dvd I had the other day...I loved Bing Crosby too! Nice job!

Bob Hope had the true strength of character that Americans exhibited during World War II. It became unfashionable in the 60's when the popularity of "recreational drugs" & "recreational sex" got hopelessly intermixed & confused with illegal and truly harmful behaviors. Crudity became confused with humor, & has remained so for many years. I well remember those times.

Thank you Mary! Yes, Bob Hope was a genuine card! SBear

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.

    T. S. Eliot (1888-1965) American-English poet and playwright.
