    Hurricane Katrina

    In August of 2005,
A storm struck my home town.
    A town called New Orleans.
I didn't know if I should stay or leave.

As I hid in the hall closet for cover
I was thinking will I live to be a good mother.
As the door shook and the walls crack.
I told myself, If I leave, I will never be back.

When it was all over, I thought to myself,
I wonder if I was going to be below God's great belt.
I knew it was a great blessing to live through.
Looking at the disaster, trying to wonder what I will do.

No food or water to eat or drink.
Trying to take a bath out a dripping sink.
    I've been through good times,
    and through bad times.
But I'm just glad God got me out of there just in time.

                          The End!

wow. i've only read bout it in the news. seen the footage. heard a couple people talk about it in the media. but to read a poem from someone who was in the thick of it makes it hit home. i've never had something this devastating happen to me in my life, and i wouldn't wish it upon myself, so God bless you for staying strong through it all and sharing this experience with the world. goodjob!

Damn girl, this is crazy! I live an hour away from New Orleans and I remember Hurricane Katrina! I start crying a few days before it hit cuz I knew in my gut it would be bad. Then the news said that Thibodaux had to do a manditory evacuation which is rare, so I was hoping for the worst. My boyfriend at the time was still in the N.O. so I was worried about him. When we came back from Texas, there was no electricity so I couldn't call. Killed me inside ya know? Then things go back to normal for us, got in touch with my bf, he was fine. I turned on the news and saw the damage that was done on ya'll. It was unreal! I can only imagine how it felt for you to be in the belly of the beast. I know I'm getting off subject with what I'm bout to say, but I'm glad the Saints won the SuperBowl. They needed to...for Louisiana! Gave us hope again ya know? I'm glad u shared this with us. :)
