I Used To Love You
I Used To Love You
I used to love you
That day I first met you, and we picked up where we left off last life time
And as time passed we grew, and somehow both knew, that a better friend we’d never find
I used to love you
When we both had situations, relations, infatuations, and perpetrated love from messin’ with those who taught us both life lessons
I used to love you
When the melodic finger of your song first strummed the strings of my heart
And my song was a harmonic mirror of lyrics to your song in another octave
I used to love you
During the hours spent laughing and talking about everything and nothing as friends often do
Relatin’ and debatin’ on who was more clever about whatever, was it me or was it you?
I used to love you
When you made me find laughter in my pain, and sunshine in my rain
How you took away the sting of so many hurtful things by just being there time and time again
I used to love you
With the first stolen kiss, when the kiss you stole was just a withheld gift
Long overdue and in that instant I knew that the answer to my hearts many questions was you
I used to love you
When I conceived in love, your seed that was never to be known
When that seed was lost, I mourned it with you, even if you felt you mourned alone
I used to love you
When you decided that to me you were not safe to commit
And decided to continue the intimate nature of our non-relationship
I used to love you
When I started seeing him just to prove I could
And still loved you, when I conceived a child with a nigga’ that meant me no good
I used to love you
When you stood by my side and ushered in my man-child
As you internalized your pain, resentment and a sense of betrayal all the while
I used to love you
When you decided that you couldn’t accept another man’s son
And in turn you did turn away from what we could’ve had and run
I used to love you
When I hated you for making her your wife
And gave her all that was meant for me; your name, your ring, your life
I used to love you
When I found out what I knew from the very start
That with all you gave her to spite me; you never gave her your heart
I used to love you
When I first discovered that you indeed do love me too
But love can’t change the fact that I can’t be a mistress to you
I used to love you
The day I first met you and through it all I love you still
And if nothing else be certain that till I D-I-E, I always will…
I used to love you
That day I first met you, and we picked up where we left off last life time
And as time passed we grew, and somehow both knew, that a better friend we’d never find
