Poem Commentary

In A Mother's Cry

My child I want you to know that your not alone for I cried for you, before you was born.

For a Mother, I didn't know how to be, cause at the time I was just learning how to be me.

My body was changing like a flower blossoming in it's ripe season, I was at my time to bloom, not listening to advice that was given to me, Now I have a baby.

As I hold you close to my chest nursing you from my breast, my mind never at one moments rest.

Now that your here, I do have fear, my days not free. For a Mother, I didn't know how to be.

So we grow together, in and out of life's stormy weather, making mis-takes along the way, before we learn to pray.

See I know I'll never get it right, that's why now I must fight for my child who have gone wild.

It may seem like I left you to the streets, but it's not so you see, I had to go back and find me.  For a mother I didn't know how to be.

Now that your grown and it seems like we can't get along, cause everything I do or say is wrong, I want to assure you that it's not so. cause as we live we must grow.

And for you my child I never meant to let you down, that was never to be.

For A Mother I Didn't Know How To Be.

Really, really good, Ladypooh. You have captured the 'subtraction' that so often accompanies the 'addition' of a child while one is young. I like the way that you portray the 'growth' of the mother and child together. This is true for all parents. No one knows how to be a parent - until they are a parent. Great Poem. Thanks for sharing.

This poem made me cry. It came alive for me with my own experiences. I would like for you to read my poems too, especially 'newness'.

Poetry is either something that lives like fire inside you or else it is nothing, an empty formalized bore around which pedants can endlessly drone their notes and explanations.
