Poem Commentary

(Dedicated to all who have lost a loved one)

In Loving Memory of

Family and Friend

 Jeffrey Franklin Chinn

My friend loved the ocean and all that the coastal life had to offer. He left this world in his early 30's due to a diving accident. Though a heavenly being now, his heart remains here with all those who still keep him alive in our hearts.

In Every Living Space

In Every Living Space

In one hand I hold a fistful of sand

And in the other, my palm is closed tight around the wind

If I cross my wrists and pull my arms to my chest I can

          seize a ray of light

As I lay upon the ground I close my eyes to capture the

twinkle of a distant star

I breathe in deep to catch a breath of the earth and sky

And with lips pursed, I can taste the hues of the ocean and sea

This all helps to keep the memory of you in me

You left your immortality carved deep into the foundation of this world

Though you have found a better place, I am thankful that you have left a part of yourself behind

Now I but have to look into every living space to behold the beauty of your loving face

Powerfully stirring the varied ingredients that were composite of those we loved and saw leave this present life. A craft of words to honor these who have crossed a great chasm before us

What a beautiful poem. I believe I read it before but if this is a 2nd read it hold more beauty this time around. A very nice tribute that you wrote with your friend in mind.

To have great poets there must be great audiences too.
