INFECTED

Love is but a parasite
Infecting the mind of its host
Searching for weakness in the heart to exploit and destroy
The body renders all control to the rugged beast
Who plays with our emotions
As a boy with his toys

Many are infected
Yet few acknowledge the effects of their condition
Some follow their instinct and hide
Thinking emotions not seen are emotions not present
Others change their nature completely
Hoping the illness will subcide

My soul fights
Not willing to give in
Though my senses have become impaired
In denial I may be
For face the truth
I shall not be dared

While love is not contagious
Shamefully all flee from the infected
Never attempting to try and learn
Or maybe lend a helping hand
But sadly the only cure
Is to be loved in return

If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry.
