Poem Commentary

I can't help but get discouraged with how hard it is in this economy to find a job while my parents, aunts and uncles had no trouble getting houses, loans and good jobs by the time they were in their mid twenties. If it's this bad now how hard will it be twenty years from now when my children have to go off on their own?

It Is Not My Fault

Dream a little dream children of yesterday
The world was open wide for all to claim
It was ours for the taking
All we had to do was wait
Wait to grow up
Come into our own
As I look around now I ask myself
Where has it gone?
Where are the promises that my parents made
Why is everything so expensive today?
This was not my doing
The fault of my parents alone
Why must I suffer for their folly's
While they sit back and grow old
If it is this bad now what of my children's fates
What must they do simply to try to make in the world at some later date

This is so true. The future seems bleak for future generations. If global warming doesn't get them the economy surely will. Thanks for sharing....Kevin

I worry about this so much, May. My oldest will be going to college in a VERY short 18 months and if the job market hasn't improved drastically by the time she graduates, I fear for her future. All we can do is cross our fingers and wait. This is a great write, thanks so much for sharing :)

I DO WONDER TOO, MY DEAR MAYUNA, WHAT LIFE MAY BE IN JUST THE NEXT TWENTY YEARS TO COME! I CONTINUE TO PONDER IF CIVILIZATION, MODERN SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY AREN'T WRONGLY TELLING ON OUR GENERATION, FOR JUST TWENTY YEARS AGO LIFE WAS STILL BETTER BY FAR!!! I LOVE THIS WISE PIECE OF YOURS! ITS ALL FEARS TO THINK ABOUT WHAT JOB WILL BE LEFT FOR OUR KIDS TO DO WHEN THEY GROW UP! I LOVE YOUR POEMS BUT THIS IS ONE OF A GREAT MASTERPIECE, BRAVO!!!

Reflection of the present and worries toward the future, excellent thoughts for all of us to ponder.

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.

Aristotle (384 BC-322 BC) Greek philosopher.
