What makes us want to continue,
Knowing what lies beyond what we have done?
The strive for living that haunts us all,
Pushing us to the edge,
Farther and farther,
Past our limits,
Our comfort zones,
Our 'Safe Places' we build to hide in.
The same drive that makes it easy for us to climb,
To build a new world,
Invent beyond our minds capable belief.
And yet,
Even with all of this motivation,
The need to excel,
To be perfect
(Or close to),
We find it is easier to fall.
To let go,
Drift away in a forgoten crowd,
Surging waves of doubt and pitty,
Falling rampant with ideals of failure,
Cowering and squabbling to stay hidden,
Giving up before ever beginning.
The thoughts of one persons actions to change the world,
To make it different in some way or shape,
Some how faltering in the realization that,
No matter how hard you try to change it,
Reality does not allow it.
Only until it is made bigger than the norm,
And never before,
Shall Reality make way before such a thing,
And let it reside as part of the 'new' norm.
The norm now taking place as a way to live,
To make living easier,
Easier to prosper in a time of need.
So what makes us continue,
To live,
To build,
To be,
To form new 'Norms' as we see fit?
It is our fear to fall,
To live as we have lived,
Our fear to stay above the fallen,
And not to fall,
That fear of knowing,
That without progress,
We only stay still,
Our past catching up,
To make the present another piece of our history.

I am glad that you enjoyed this write, it makes me think, to what does make us continue, but at the end of the day, I always know the answer, if not only for that day.

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
