Letting Go

Letting Go

When you have someone that holds your heart

And you feel only half when you’re apart,

It makes it harder when you have to let go.

Even when it’s a decision that you already know

Is the best for you both and your lives will go on,

And that person will never be truly gone.

When you love a person and know in your heart

That no matter what life brings they’ll always be part

Of a time full of laughter and sometimes pain,

And maybe someday fate will unite you again.

But if that day doesn’t come you can never forget

About the good that was shared and the love you begat.

When you let someone go they take a piece of your heart

To carry with them always and you then have to start

Looking for a new life and remember what was

A short lifetime filled with love and don’t pause

To dwell on what could have been, for it was not to be.

If you truly love someone you must set them free.

When you have a love like Jennifer, there’s only room in your heart

For the love of your children and a dog that’s so smart.

Yet, there has to be room to step back and let go

As she takes a path towards a new life, one that I know

She needs and deserves, and yes I will take time to weep,

But I will smile when I see her face in my sleep.

Awww....I can't help but want to root for this underdog of love....reality is such a scrooge at times....but its having that love that makes it such a double edge sword....you have to do what is the best for that person....even if it means letting go....it hurts....but its pain with mixed emotions.....nice write.....Cher

A very realistic view and love and it's necessary sacrifices. Nice rhythm and rhyme, poets have been writing about love and its loss for all time. .Parting with such sweet sorrow comes to mind.....write on.............Tlady

thank much, TL. the love i have for this woman has overshadowed so many things in my life, and having to sacrifice that love for her happiness is the one thing i feel that is right, no matter the pain.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
