    Listen

I could hear it on the telephone, that empty, hollow sound.
And the silent splash of teardrops, as they fell upon the ground

Though you would never say it, it spoke louder than your words.
If I had been a different man, those words would not be heard.

It started with your heartbeat, as it echoed through the line.
Then there were suggestions, the often quiet kind.

The tenderness of a whisper, as it left your pouting lips.
Too many sad goodnight s, without a goodnight kiss.

Long distance conversations, only tease a lonely soul.
And the months of sleepless nights, too often took a toll.

That's why I'm writing down these lines, what else am I to do?
I can only say, “I love you” and of coarse, “I miss you too”!

RD, What a poignant and heartfelt write. It surprised me toward the end. I at first feared that it would be sad and then a sweet surprise. ginga

If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry.
